Lo Spartak Mosca era l'unica squadra di calcio sovietica a godere di un autentico seguito popolare, non limitato alla capitale ma diffuso in tutto il territorio dell'immenso paese, escluse forse l'Ucraina e le Georgia, dove il tifo per le Dinamo era anche espressione di orgoglio nazionale. Per comprendere i motivi di tale popolarità occorre risalire agli anni Venti, quando, in un rione popolare di Mosca, un gruppo di giovani appassionati di calcio creò la propria squadra. Creò nel senso più completo del termine, perché oltre a fondare la società costruì, a proprie spese, gli impianti sportivi. Il breve racconto intende seguire la formazione di questo mito dalle radici.
