An abandoned orphanage.A strange collection of very curious photographs. It all waits to be discovered inMiss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow-impossible though it seems-they may still be alive. ??A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography,Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Childrenwill delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows. Good beside read.

Not my usual sort of book but heard good things and I was not disappointed. Once you get into it it's very hard to put down and before you know it you're at the end. Can't wait to get the second one.

  • Most critical review

    Not to my taste

Its a decent enough story, well written, so far as it goes. But for me it suffers most from the ending, which was changed considerably for the film and very much for the better. The problem, for my taste, is that the book ends "all at sea". Essentially it is a section from a single long story split across several "separate" books. So if you want an actual ending, you will need to buy them all, or watch the film, or maybe just buy the last book whenever it is published.

  • My 13yr old son loves it.

This is an interesting and quirky book that he is really enjoying. He says it better than the film and there are some big differences. He would recommend.
