About this product

Product Information

Angus Oblong brings characters inspired by his book CREEPY SUSIE AND 13 OTHER TRAGIC TALES FOR TROUBLED CHILDREN to the screen in THE OBLONGS. The animated show debuted in 2001, and quickly became a cult favorite. Based on a family that dwells perilously close to a swamp comprised of toxic waste, the show follows their daily lives in half-hour episodes. Each member of the family is deformed in some unusual way--a consequence of their close proximity to the swamp--but they all stick together and remain a close, loving unit. So while dad, Bob Oblong, may not posses any limbs, and his conjoined twin sons, Biff and Chip, may have three legs, it doesn't stop them from enjoying life alongside the similarly deformed residents of their community (named Hill Valley). The show resembles a post-apocalyptic version of THE SIMPSONS. Every episode from both seasons of THE OBLONGS is collected here.

Item arrived in great condition. Seller has excellent communication, and is very friendly. They informed me the on date of delivery without me even asking, packaged my item very well and neat, making it easy to open but still packed very safely, with care. They also left a nice little card with a friendly handwritten message, along with a discount on other items. Whether it’s for better marketing or they are just naturally friendly, it’s a pleasant surprise that seems very genuine. 5-star seller

    Just a Happy Glowing Family

This show was ahead of it’s time. It was fun for a while, but I wish it had more seasons. Jokes aside, it’s kind of sad when you think about it. The rich people in The Hills have the money and power to help the poor people of The Valley live better, more healthy lives, but they won’t bother to help them because they don’t care. Despite this, The Oblongs are still happy and content with their lives. You can learn something from the Onlongs. The show actually reminds me of the pictures I’ve seen in National Geographic of families living in poverty in third world countries. These families live in harsh conditions, but they look so happy regardless.

  • Amusing, moderately dark, satirical comedy

If you've never seen the Oblongs, you've missed out. Think 'The Simpsons', mutated and on crack. I watched it on Adult Swim years ago, and was thrilled to finally find it on DVD. The series was canceled after the first season, so please bear that in mind if you order the full series; there were only 13 episodes, so it's only a 2-disc set. The series revolves around the Oblong family; Bob, Pickles, Chip, Biff, Milo, Beth, Scottie, and an unnamed cat who chain smokes. Peripherally, it revolves around the world they live in. The Oblong family lives in the town of Hill Valley, which emcompasses the Hills and the Valley. Rich people live in the Hills, poor people live in the Valley. Valley folk tend to mutate. Bob has no limbs; Chip and Biff are siamese twins; Beth has a vaguely phallic thing ...

  • vulgarity, a seriously nuclear family and class wars

The thing I like best about Angus Oblong's cartoon series is his wickedly funny adaptation of the class wars. His family, the Oblongs, are the cheerily downtrodden dregs of their society. Misshapen from exposure to toxic chemicals, the family ekes out a living while being cheated and spat on by the 'Hill people,' their more affluent neighbors on the hills above them. The Oblongs and other valley dwellers, including a brilliantly sketched cast of school-aged misfits, must cope with their poverty, and do so by supporting one another (frequently with far more moral understanding than the obnoxious Hill people) and a series of funny, if ill-fated, pranks. Bob Oblong, the father, is voiced to all his delusionally cheerful glory by SNL's Will Ferrell. His wife, Pickles, a hard-drinking ...

  • If you like mature animated shows, this is for you!

I've always loved animated shows aimed at a mature or adult audience such as Family Guy and South Park, and The Oblongs is no exception. My girlfriend turned me onto this show a few years ago, and I was instantly hooked! It's a pity that it only lasted a mere 13 episodes. The DVD set contains the entire run and boasts a great set of extra content including interviews with the creator, Angus Oblong (man, is this guy odd!), the producers, and most of the voice actors. I was hoping that the DVD set would sell like hotcakes and usher in a revival of the show, but the interviews with Angus Oblong make it pretty obvious that he wasn't happy with the direction the show had taken and that it was much different than he wanted it to go. Well, it's a really great, funny, and oddball show with the ...

  • Funny Cartoons for Adults!

I first saw the oblongs on Adult Swim and fell in love with it! It's a great season about a family that lives in the valley below the hills. The valley is a nasty place where waste is dumped and etc. The family has some abnormalities because of the waste, but they are still a great family and love each other. The family gets into some crazy situations. My favorite part is helga and the debbies. Helga is a Chubby friend of milo (one of the main characters) and she tries to be a debbie aka...the most popular girls in school. She tries so hard to fit in and become a debbie but it never really works out for her. Its a great comedy for people who like things on adult swim but its closer to family guy then the other shows on the network. Hopefully this review will help you decide to buy this ...
