  • I have not quite finished the book yet, but I would say it is one you will read at least once and then keep and use as a reference.

The book opens with the evolution of language and how it is used by different mammals. It discusses why most mammals have limitations when it comes to speech, and how they have other forms of communication, some of which humans have too, but that we use to a lesser degree. I wish there was an audio to go with some of the varied sounds he describes his dogs making. That is a part I will definitely have to go back and review. It is not a book that will instantly allow you to have a conversation with your dog, but more of a book you have to read and keep thinking about as you observe dogs. When a dog makes certain movements or sounds, you will be more aware and focus on them, recollecting what you have read. Even if you think you already understand what all of the the sounds and ...

  • very good for any dog owner

This book was recommended to me by several dog behaviorists when we got our Chespeake Bay Retriever. I LOVE it! It has some very good advice on dealing with all types of dogs, plus how to really understand how your dog communicates and behaves the way he does. Very informative, and a must-have for all dog owners.

  • A wonderful addition to any dog-lover's library

This book was a recommendation from my vet and I highly recommend it for anyone that wants to know more about communication with their dog. I rescued a dachshund that was badly abused and needed to better understand her body language in order to work with her effectively. This book was an excellent reference point and assuring to check back with as needed.

  • Loved it!

I loved the book. It is right on. I laughed at so many of the sections because it was my dogs to a T!
