About this product

Product Information

Hailed by reviewers as powerful, haunting and a tour de force of personal journalism, When A Crocodile Eats the Sun is the unforgettable story of one man's struggle to discover his past and come to terms with his present. Award winning author and journalist Peter Godwin writes with pathos and intimacy about Zimbabwe's spiral into chaos and, along with it, his family's steady collapse. This dramatic memoir is a searing portrait of unspeakable tragedy and exile, but it is also vivid proof of the profound strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of love. In the tradition of Rian Malan and Philip Gourevitch, a deeply moving book about the unkwability of an Africa at once thrilling and grotesque. In elegant, elegiac prose, Godwin describes his father's illness and death in Zimbabwe against the backdrop of Mugabe's descent into tyranny. His parent's waning and the country's deterioration are entwined so that personal and political tragedy become inseparable, each more profound for the presence of the other -- Andrew Solomon, author of The Noonday Demon A fascinating, heartbreaking, deeply illuminating memoir that has the shape and feel of a superb vel. -Kurt Anderson, author of Heydey

I enquired about to estimate arrival of my book that I purchased, the seller replied quite fast, (good communication). Two days after the inquiry the item arrived. The book is second hand as described in good condition. The package arrived in a package to help reduced water damage, however some of the packaging broke due to shipping, perhaps a stronger package might work better. I recommend this seller, and I will definitely be repurchasing books from the seller again in the future. 😌

The book arrived on time, and the packaging looked perfect, so I was a bit thrown when I opened it to find water damage. No clue what happened, but I suspect it had a little adventure before being repacked. I contacted the seller with photos, and they responded promptly with an apology and a full refund. No excuses, just great customer service. Things happen, but this seller handled it brilliantly. Honest, quick, and classy. I'd happily buy from them again

My experience was positive re the seller, but negative towards the tracking service which claimed it had been delivered on 17 December. That was to the Danish Postal Service and it arrived in my hands earlier this afternoon. The information was so misleading that I received 2 reminders from ebay about not leaving feedback. The item was as described and well packaged. I will now get the chance to read the story about yet another character in the Blaydon Races song and my home town.
