Straying far from straight country billing, THE JOHNNY CASH SHOW welcomed a wide variety of musical artists during its tenure from 1969 to 1971. Reaching across musical barriers, Cash welcomed artists that ranged from country rebel Waylon Jennings to R&B star Stevie Wonder. No surprise, as Cash himself chafed against the musical constraints imposed by Nashville. Included here are 66 performances that show artists working at the peak of their creativity, including a trio of songs by a velvet-voiced Bob Dylan (during his NASHVILLE SKYLINE phase); a jam session with Cash, Eric Clapton, and Carl Perkins; and plenty of duets featuring the Man in Black with, among others, Louis Armstrong, Roy Orbison, and Cash's wife, June Carter. Throughout the show, viewers feel Cash's personal touch and graciousness as he welcomes these legendary artists to the stage, his home. Other guests include George Jones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Kris Kristofferson, Conway Twitty, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, and Joni Mitchell.

Watched this DVD the other night and was totally captivated by the wide range of guests Johnny had on his show. Every one for a young Hank Williams Jr. to the amazing Louis Armstrong made this DVD a joy to watch. It's a tough call but my favorite part of this amazing DVD had to be when Carl Perkins came out to join Derek and the Dominos to do a scorching version of Matchbox. I would definitely recommend this to any person who is a fan of music from the 50's through the 70's.Watched this DVD the other night and was totally captivated by the wide range of guests Johnny had on his show. A Great Gift
I bought "The Best of the Johnny Cash TV Show 1969-1971" (a 2 DVD set) as a gift for my significant other who's a great Cash fan, so, in essence, I couldn't go wrong. But this collection is much more than I'd bargained for. It's not just Johnny and June but Mother Maybelle and the rest of the Carter family, the Statler Bros and a host of country performers who were guests on the show 35+ years ago. And to really sweeten this collection, there are performances by guests like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Louis Armstrong, Eric Clapton, Pete Seeger, Kris Kristofferson and a teenage Linda Ronstadt. So this is really a little time capsule -- a reminder of the late '60s and early '70s and the blossoming of musical talents that are in full bloom today. I'm really looking forward to playing it for our ...
