The only officially licensed baseball game from a third-party publisher in 2006, Major League Baseball 2K6 continues the sports series once known as World Series Baseball. Developer Kush Games has revamped the pitching, batting, and fielding interfaces from previous installments to address a number of issues. While at the plate, players can swing for the fences by pressing the right analog stick, dubbed the "swing stick," in different directions for stronger cuts or to push or pull the ball to various parts of the field. Players on the mound will need to master a new timing-based pitching system that involves tapping a button at specific moments to determine how close the ball will reach its intended target. Fielding now takes into account an athlete's momentum, allowing players to nudge or push the analog stick to jog or run. Stronger, riskier throws are also possible by applying pressure to the face buttons, while collisions can occur on the base paths as well as in the field. <br><br>To bring more realism into the game, the developers have added Inside Edge scouting data to mimic real-life tendencies of the hitters and hurlers in the dugouts and bullpens. By spending a specific number of Inside Edge "points" during a game, players can learn where to pitch a particular hitter or determine the likelihood a pitcher is going to bring the heat in certain situations. Other notable features include the ability to challenge umpire calls in an interactive mini-game, manage the team's morale through multiple seasons, and track a wide assortment of personal statistics through the VIP system used in other 2K Sports games. In addition to the standard season, franchise, and playoff game modes, Major League Baseball 2K6 includes the international teams and all-star lineups from the inaugural World Baseball Classic. Players can also take their favorite teams online with support for stat tracking, buddy lists, and custom leagues.

Fun for Pitchers
I rented this game the other day due to the argument that it was a bad game. What I found surprised me. 1. The graphics are not up to what I was used to. The players lack definition and style. I almost think they spent so much time analyzing the players they forgot to make them look human. (Hope this does get better in the future.) 2. The Hit Stick made for some fun AB’s. I was used to the concept from EA Sports College Baseball game, but I did have to adjust my play with the changes. And I believe there was an option to turn it off if you did not like it. 3. The Pitching was in my opinion the most fun I have ever had in a game. The way you can manipulate the catcher, make pay of pitches, and build on success in game by improvements to the pitcher in game all make me feel like they did do ... The way the catcher works the batter helping you to get the outs on the players you own scouting reports on is cool in itself. Stress placed on the pitcher in jams made for fun baseball as well. No other game I have played made me feel like I was really there trying to just throw that strike with 2 outs and bases juiced. The pitches aim jerks all over the strike zone when he gets raddled. 4. The coach can hype up his team by arguing and the pitching coach can really calm down a pitcher who is struggling or in a bind. The options to fire and hire different coaches and staff just gave it that much more of a Madden like effect of running your own ball club. 5. On the down side I didn’t really agree with how they rated some of the players with skills. It seemed to be very unforgiving and although I know many players are below average some of the local hero’s ratings were poor overall. 6. The fielding is hard to get down. Maybe it was because I was going from using the right Analog stick to the buttons again but the throws seemed sluggish and the movement in the outfield seemed slow except when using speed burst. The player AI seems shaky on ground balls and base coverage. But maybe I just need to play it more to get that right. 7. The scouting reports on the players are information overload but helpful at times. 8. Overall I enjoyed it. Having been a closing pitcher in High School I loved the changes made to make you feel like you are in a tough spot. 9. I say rent it, give the game a chance, sure the graphics are not up to standard but maybe they will work on that next year. Look at the good things in this game, the thrill of not being able to dominate every game against the computer because the pitcher and the batters seem more human and less robotic.

This game is awfull and the show isnt far behind
This game is a joke , I feel like I am playing the old sega , the graphics are horrible , the players look nothing like the real players , the pitcher looks like he has to take a dump when he is in his stance , you can walk right through other players...... the pitching view is awfull , the lineups arents updated (even with a late release) ....... AND THIS COMAPNY OWNS THE COPYRIGHT TO MLB GAMES , we are getting screwed here, the presentation is par at best. Im not a fan of The Show either. Nobody put a good baseball game this year. MVP had it locked down with quality and bug free play ... Im seriously returning The Show and 2k6 and taking credit to rebuy MVP 05. Anyway from somebody who has acctually played both games. here are the reviews compared Graphics The Show - 7 (graphics are ... Major League Baseball 2K6 (Playstation 2) a Winner!
Our seven year old son started playing baseball this spring. He was slowly getting the strategy of the game; building a fondness etc. We bought him this game and now he is a die-hard baseball player and fan. He knows all the players names and loves to watch the game on TV. He can't get enough batting practice outside. He challenges the entire family to this playstation game and has the most fun beating his parents. We have to limit his playing time or he would be playing 24/7. I like the game. It's a lot of fun. I bought it cause it was only a year old and very well priced. The game itself is fun, and challenging, but to the point where you cant get into it right away. I love 2k games for all sports, and normally buy them the year after they come out.... just feels more economical.
