Total Film - "...One of the best performance movies ever made..." -- 4 out of 5 stars, New York Times - ...A rock concert film that looks and sounds like no other....It may well help inspire [rock films] of the future.
Additional Information
Jonathan Demme made this stunning and unique rock concert video of the Talking Heads by documenting three different shows the group performed in Hollywood at the Pantages Theater in December 1983. Restrained while maintaining a classic sense of style, Demme gets the most out of his subjects. The camera is always a second citizen to the action. The film begins with a solo from David Byrne, performing an acoustic version of "Psycho Killer," and soon has evolved into a nine-piece band for "Take Me to the River." In addition to Byrne, the Heads include Jerry Harrison, Tina Weymouth, and Chris Franz, who are joined by three more musicians and two backup singers--who don't shy away from the chance to dance and run around with the rest of the band. The screen behind the band displays a variety of images ranging from words to evocative images to children's drawings. The end result is a resounding testament to the band's talent and sense of humor--and one of the finest rock films ever made.

  • Talking Heads always making sense

One of the best live concerts ever filmed, but what else would you expect. Starts off slow and builds to a crescendo. Pure nectar for the eyes and ears. 10 out of 10

  • One of the Best Concert DVD's Ever

Overall excellent show. If you love, like, kinda like, or have heard of The Talking Heads you will love this DVD. I watch it or listen to it a few times per day and it doesn't get old.

  • Best concert DVD on earth - bar none

I first saw this concert in 1987 with a group of friends, it blew us away and it's been on my hit list to own on DVD for ages.Time has not distilled it's impact, it's a remarkable concert capturing a seminal band at their peak. Byrne is simply amazing and the rest of the band feed off him. His vocals are note perfect, no mean feat considering how active he is throughout. I've seen a lot of live bands but never a band more engaged with each other and the audience. Touring with the Speaking in Tongues album ( arguably their best ) this features their best work performed live. It works on two levels both as a showcase for their formidable musical talents and also as a visual feast. Seeing Byrne enter in silouette in the big suit for Girlfriend is Better is a cinematic treat. A stunning ...

  • Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense (DVD 2004)

If you are a David Byrne fan you've probably got it, so don't bother reading on. On the other hand if you’re undecided, keep reading, I could go on about this performance until I wear my finger tips out on the keyboard, but I won’t boar you. Just take my word for it, this DVD shows Dave at his most brilliant peak, complete with the whole original entourage. Digitally re-mastered image and sound track, just occasionally slips sink, leaving you wondering at times whether there miming or not, but not too distracting. I am being critical here. Overall the DVD benefits from the re-working making it as clear and as sharp as anything put out today. Get it; it’s 10 times better than the original VHS that every other poor fan has got. Great addition for any serious collector. If you've never bought ...
