Jersey Devil is loosely based upon the legendary New Jersey beast of the same name but instead of the horrific beast the legend describes, the protagonist of the game is a cute purple creature with long-ears and small wings. Dr. Knarf -- the villain of the piece -- has created a legion of mutated vegetables to do his evil bidding, and it falls to Jersey Devil to stop the maniacal scientist. To do this, the purple protagonist must venture through a series of 3D platform stages spread across themed environments such as a museum, cemetery, forest, and even a haunted house.<br><br>Endowed with an ample set of abilities, Jersey Devil must jump, glide, and tail whip his way through the hordes of vegetables and undead minions, the latter comprising such mainstays as zombies, bats, and spiders. Outlandish boss creatures must also be defeated at the end of each environment. As is the case with titles of this ilk, when not engaged in combat, players will need to navigate a plethora of platforms, death-defying leaps, and gaping chasms. The camera can be rotated manually as the player sees fit. Strewn about the many locales are pumpkins, KNARF tokens, and an assortment of boxes.<br><br>Collecting a hundred pumpkins will reward the player with an extra life, while finding the five KNARF tokens will allow players to unlock doors and progress further into a given level. Run-of-the-mill boxes can be broken to reveal useful items, while TNT boxes can be thrown at enemies. Yet others serve as mid-level checkpoints, allowing the player to resume the level from the last checkpoint activated. Also, by destroying the nitro boxes in each level, Jersey Devil's power level will be increased. Lastly, players can opt to seek out the two hostages that are hidden in each stage.

There was one nit pick about the item, but that is my fault for not engaging the seller prior to purchasing for additional details. As the issue only crops up in very few games (dark scenes show a tiny bit of the top lcd was squished to the light panel). Again, no fault of the seller, this item came shipped as pictured.

    Very Challenging Game!

    This game may test your patience as you will probably die A LOT. This is an old 3D platforming game so your jumps will often miss your intended landing spot no matter how precise you thought ypu were. When you are fighting off an enemy your hits will not always connect. Luckily this game is very generous with the bonus lives.

    Jersey Devil- PS1 Fun for an older game! Great for kids

    This game has a different type of story line to it. It is from the an old folklore about a small animal called "The Jersey Devil" from the Pine Barrens in New Jersey. This is a fun game for children and young adults. None of the blood and gore of the newer games. There is no violence, cursing or the use of deadly force. You overcome an evil doctor to save Jersey City. This is sort of like a Mario type game. Only you collect pumpkins and letters spelling "KNARF" (the name of the evil doctor). The Jersey Devil is a cute little guy that looks similiar to a rabbit. Overall it is a good game for children and young teens.

    A Great Game

    Jersey Devil is a great game for pre through early teenage years. The game is a quest of a purple devil-creature to find a scientist who mistreated him. On his way to finding the evil scientist, he goes through various levels beating up vegetable creatures. I find this game to be extremely fun and it is not an overly violent game. The worst violence is the devil punching a bouncing pumpkin. This game is not easy to find, so if you see it for a good price, buy it! This is a Playstation 1 game and is not made new anymore, so the better condition games will be more expensive. I highly recommend this game to anyone who is looking for a great play!

    Jersey Devil great.

    This was a solid, fun platform for the PS1, which never received the attention it deserved. It had nice Halloween theme to it and some diversified, challenging game play as well( boss in a speeding car match, a basketball match in one level, a drag the crate puzzle in another). Back then it was great, a true rival to Crash Bandicoot, and it still is, would I pick it up and play through it again, hmm, probably not.
