Bargain-bucket powerhouse with a twist
If you're looking for a cheap upgrade, then you could do worse than the Phenom II X2 550. Essentially a quad-core with two disabled (or non-functioning) cores, it comes with all the bells and whistles associated with this unique arrangement. 7MB of cache for starters, which is an enormous amount for a dual-core, but it certainly helps when looking at performance figures in comparison to its smaller cache possessing cousins. It also can potentially be unlocked into a tri-core or quad-core, assuming you have a motherboard which has a SB710 chipset or above. A simple change in the BIOS and a restart later and you could have a processor which should have cost you over twice as much, that is provided you have a sample which has fully functioning cores, or risk permanent damage to any one of ... Even if you can't unlock it, you're essentially left with a very quick dual-core processor that more than meets the demand of most Desktop users, and even most gamers. It's a fine overclocker too. If you can see one for less than £60 delivered I say, go for it. You won't be disappointed. However anything over that and you're slipping into the i3 530 territory, which is frankly, a better processor. The platform however is slightly more expensive than the AM3, so you will be paying a premium on more than just the CPU. In conclusion, a great CPU for those on a budget. Those that can afford to branch out a bit? i3 530 or i5 750 are better processors.

The Phenom II X2 550 CPU is the best CPU I have ever come across for gaming. Very few games use over 2 cores, so a quad core phenom II is likely to have a couple of cores idling when gaming. What would be ideal for gaming would be a Phenom II Quad core with a couple of cores disabled. This is exactly what this chip is, it also has the same 6mb of cache now shared between two cores instead of four. This is the best AMD CPU for gaming at this time. It is also really cheap too.The Phenom II X2 550 CPU is the best CPU I have ever come across for gaming. Very Good Processor
I was looking to build a new system and i wanted to try an AMD Processor, I looked at lots of different one,s and all the specs about them and i read that this one is advertised as a Dual Processor but is actually a Quad Processor with two of the Cores not used, so with the right Motherboard it could be tuned from a Dual Processor to a Quad Processor , So you get something twice the power but for the same priceas a dual Processor.I was looking to build a new system and i wanted to try an AMD Processor, I looked at lots of different one,s and all the specs about them and i read that this one is advertised as a Dual Processor but is actually a Quad Processor with two of the Cores not used, so with the right Motherboard it could be tuned from a Dual Processor to a Quad Processor , So you get something twice the power but for the same priceas a dual Processor.

Second-hand Processors
For me it is a good choice to buy products like this. Microprocessors used that for normal use may serve very well and the price is bentajose.

Won this on ebay had issues to unlock sorted this to unlock all 4 cores when re booted next time only x2 cores open had to reset cmos then set mobo to default and try again then yippee all unlocked but did the same again some work so pot luck if all stable but still very happy even two cores are very fast..
