This book should be on every sporting shotgun owner's bookshelf. Even though this book was written some decades ago, it remains a very insightful look at the shotgun and especially its ballistics. Sadly, author Bob Brister passed away several years ago after a very successful career as a professional shotgun shooter/competitor and writer ( I think he was the firearms editor for Field & Stream magazine for a number or years). Bob was the winner of many different competitions across the U.S. and outside the country. One of my regrets in connection with this book was that the author was not able to do a revised, updated edition given all the new loads that have come onto the market since he wrote the first edition back in the 1970s. Having said that however, this book is not outdated by any means. Its conclusions are relevant today to any person who wishes to become a better game or target shotgun marksman. One thing that I should point out is that the first edition of this book was published by the Winchester Press and its photos and illustrations are very clear to look at. About ten years ago, when Border's was still in business, I saw a reprint of this book on their shelf. I thought it was inferior to the first edition in terms of print quality and illustration/photo quality. So the Winchester Press printing is the one to have. SHOTGUNNING: THE ART AND THE SCIENCE is quite possibly one of the most important 12 books written about shotguns in the last 75 years. I cannot offer it higher praise than that.Read full review
