Started my decorated career as an arm chair general
Iron Storm was one of my early forays into turn based strategy games. I prefer turn based rather than real time strategy, since I like to plan my moves and take my time surveying the battlefield. Turn based may be slower paced, but there is a satisfaction as your armies slowly take over the map. Visuals aren’t a priority in a game like Iron Storm. Your units are represented by a simple sprite of a tank, plane, or infantry. The battlefield is a simply populated area with basic terrain as trees, rivers, mountains, towns and bases. When your units engage in battle, an animated scene shows your units attacking the other and vice versa. It’s neat to watch, but quickly grows tiresome. Sound effects and the soundtrack are about as sparse as the visuals. Cannon and machinegun fire along ... Iron Storm was one of my early forays into turn based strategy games. The soundtrack is comprised of just a handful of tracks, but they are excellent. I could listen to the German music all day. Iron Storm introduced me to the hex grid that is quite popular in similar games. Terrain plays a large part in your strategy as it determines how you move and how effective your attacks and defense are. A number represents your unit’s health with 10 being the best. You will need to take over towns and cities as you conquer the map and also allow your units to rest and resupply. You can pick to be either the US, Japan, or Germany, and depending how you play, can rewrite history. I managed to take over the world as Japan and managed to hold off the Allies during their assault on Berlin that resulted in a truce. Your weapons evolve over the course of the war and depending how much you changed history, some unconventional units become available. I really didn’t know what I was getting when I got Iron Storm. I just had a vague idea of some kind of WW2 game. Even when I started playing, I still didn’t really know what I was doing. After a little while, it all started coming together and next thing I knew, I was playing for several hours at a time. I have played other turn based war games, but Iron Storm will still always be my favorite.

What a perfectly made game by Working Designs. A real time strategy game based on the events of World War II. This game is hard to find in good condition. I found a great copy and had to have it for my collection. The disk was in mint condition. The manual was in mint condition as well. The case only had a small crack in it. The game is a great mix of action and story telling, a must have for any Working Designs fan or Sega Saturn fan.What a perfectly made game by Working Designs. One of the best Saturn games out there
This is the game that got me into turn-based strategy (it is turn-based, and not real time as the other reviewer said). The graphics were great for the Saturn. The map and grid system are all fairly detailed, as are the actual units. As you start a battle there is a cutscene that plays depicting that battle, though these can be turned off.
