Choosing a new camera turned out to be a major decision making exercise -mostly because there were a spate of new cameras launched around the same time. I compared them on a range of specs, and read many reviews, and eventually was convinced that this was the one I wanted. Fortunately I think I chose the right camera and I think it is terrific. It has a great lens, good zoom, takes quality 1080p video, is a good size and weight and is well built. It has replaced my Sony A200 set up and I can now take all the shots I want with a lot less weight to carry and no lens changing.I have been able to put the (very comprehensive) pdf owners manual on to my mobile phone, so I can search, find and read what I need to know quickly and don't mind at all that it is not a heavy printed manual. I also like that I could find reasonably priced lens filter, lcd protector and batteries at good prices. There are lots of video reviews of the camera online which might help you to decide if this is the one for you.I certainly recommend it.Read full review
Purchased this camera as an upgrade from my excellent Panasonic Lumix FZ38 - wanted extra zoom provided by the FZ48. So far, I have used the camera extensively for outdoor scenes in various parts of Scotland and the zoom comes into its own for shots of distant mountains etc. Close ups of plants, insects also gave good results. Have also used camera for indoor family photos and, again, well pleased with quality. Only downside was that seller "Tunsty" did not leave feedback though I gave him positive feedback.
I bought this camera as a "point and shoot" alternative for the SLR that's easier to move about with, and with a better zoom without changing lenses. I am very impressed with it. Took it to France and got some excellent photos. The clarity of the pictures is very good, and in daylight the auto function is brilliant. Got some very clear hand-held pictures at full zoom too. There are custom modes as well, which if you're not in a rush and have a tripod, can get some absolutely excellent photos, and control a lot of the settings. Not quite to the extent as an SLR, but impressed me with the amount of customization (including manual focus) One downfall I have seen with this camera - but haven't tested it out to the full extent yet - is taking photos at night, point and shoot style. Again - on the tripod and playing with the settings and controlling ISO - brilliant photos, but when trying to take quite portraits at a party whilst on auto - I noticed there was a high level of noise, and sometimes wouldn't take into account the flash being used. But that was in early days of the camera - so will have to try again at some point. Also sometimes - when on Auto, the focus might sometimes focus on the wrong object, and you can't get it to change it's mind. Otherwise - I love this camera. Great photos, great zoom, great functionality. This takes perfect photos, not up to professional standard, but if care is taken whilst taking the photo - it's not far off. Also getting that level of macro with that extensive zoom without having to change lenses - brilliant!!Read full review
Bought this for my 10 year old granddaughter. She loves it and finds it easy to operate and create the photos she wants. The size and compactness makes it ideal for carrying when out on a shoot. It has inspired her to improve her photography skills.

This is an amazing piece of kit, got it for my wife as she said her Cannon EOS 750 was a bit too heavy now to be taking on fairly long walks. The Lumix weighs a fraction of the Cannon but what it can do is amazing and the zoom is quite fantastic, every time my wife picks it up she finds another thing it can do thanks to the excellent handbook that the vendor supplied. The only extras you need are a case and a larger memory card or two 'cos once you start using this thing you just can't stop clicking away.
