    A Voyage into the unknown

Television doesn't get any better than Irwin Allen's world of Sci-Fi. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was the first of Irwin Allen's classic TV series. During the 1960's Allen dominated the airwaves with the likes of Lost In Space, The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants. Each production was a labor of his love. I found myself glued each week to the adventures of the Seaview, The Robinson Family with Dr. Smith and the Robot, Dr. Tony Neuman and Dr. Doug Phillips, as well as the "Little People" stranded in a land of behemoths. Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was always able to maintain a certain level of seriousness, even when it soon became the tongue and cheek "Monster of the week" series. At least the actors remained serious. These was no campy goings on here. My favorite episodes were ...

  • Cheesy but nostalgic, and that SUB!

This was my favorite TV show when I was a kid. An excursion into the abyss every week in the coolest submarine ever designed. A flying sub, monsters that wrought havoc and a salty crew that overcame every obstacle with courage and savy in the face of the most unsurmountable dangers. What kid wouldn't be mesmerized? I watch it now, and I realize just how cheesy this show was! The special effects are ingenius but impractical. The situations are imaginative but unbelievable. Sometimes the acting is so "tongue in cheek" that it is obvious that the actors are straining to say their lines without laughing. Yet, through all of that, I still find myself gripped by this show. That beautiful submarine Seaview with the manta ray bow and Caddy fins, and the flying sub. Still the coolest vessels ever ...

  • Classic '60s Television

Pretty good TV show from the 1960s. Entertaining. Some good scripts and decent effects. Richard Basehart does a fine job as Admiral Nelson.

  • 1960's TV SciFi. It is what it is.

Season 2 is in color. Looks great. I liked the season 1 stories a bit better. Some day I'll buy season 3.

  • Past became Life

When I was a kid I use to watch "Voyage to the bottom of the sea". So when I grew up I joined the navy and the submarine service for two years.
