The son of a New York City police officer, Gavin O'Connor serves as director and co-screenwriter of this tale of family, loyalty, and corruption. The NYPD runs in the Tierney family's blood. Francis Tierney Sr. (Jon Voight) is the Chief of Detectives, his son Ray (Edward Norton) is a detective, and his son Francis (Noah Emmerich) is in charge of the precinct where his son-in-law, Jimmy Egan (Colin Farrell), serves. When four officers who work in Francis's house die in a drug bust, Ray, a former wunderkind who has been lying low working on missing persons cases for the past few years, is appointed to investigate. But as he starts to put the pieces together, Ray realizes that all signs indicate there are some dirty police in the city, and worse yet, he may actually be related to some of them. Faced with the toughest decision of his life, Ray has to choose between his loyalty to his family and to the department, and decide what is right.A stellar cast supports this film, with strong performances from the four lead players and from the supporting actors who portray both criminals and police officers. Voight is the quintessential Irish-American father and cop who has risen through the ranks; he will do whatever it takes to protect his family. Norton and Emmerich play off each other well as brothers who have taken slightly different paths while dealing with their own personal heartaches. Farrell, meanwhile, convincingly plays Jimmy as a loving family man whose choices have led him to the brink of desperation. Lake Bell co-stars as Jimmy's wife and sister to Francis and Ray.

its better than what you've heard but not much better
Pride and Glory" is a lot better than you've heard; however, despite a taut storyline and a terrific cast the film has more or less divided critics and casual moviegoers. Mainly for complaints regarding the movie's clichéd story, its cardboard twists and turns and altogether depressing feel. To be sure, the movie has some wonderful performances and is slightly better than that Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix cop picture (We Own the Night); though not quite as good as that Leonardo Dicaprio, Matt Damon movie (The Departed). Both Edward Norton and Colin Farrel have no problem fleshing out these two haunted characters and their relationships with one another; as it mirrors their corrupt family of cops who mean well but end up doing so, so bad. We've seen this story done before, sometimes a ... We've seen this story done before, sometimes a lot better. However, rarely has a mediocre script been given such a royal treatment. Colin Farrel in particular is sometimes painful to watch, his performance is the work of calculated genius (regardless of how you feel about his American accent). Can anybody play noble and tormented better than Edward Norton? He is a mesmerizing screen presence, evoking many complex emotions, sometimes during the same moment. In certain scenes, he gives more than the scenes themselves deserve. The movie could have benefited from a larger number of compelling female characters. The only one given any sense of depth is the terminally-ill spouse of the officer played by Noah Emmerich. One scene in particular between the two, near the end of the film strikes a huge emotional chord (and not for the same reasons you might imagine). There are many compellingly honest scenes thrown into the whirlwind of many nonsensical ones. Too bad, since Pride and Glory could have worked much better had the story not been pulled into so many directions. The film is often grim, violent and gratuitous with its tone; though never altogether unconvincing. Certain moments ring true and perfect, such as a climatic bar fight (Now I know what you're thinking--how could a bar fight be exciting and emotionally complex?--Just watch the movie and you'll understand). However, other scenes pander and contain no shred of authenticity (an example is the Christmas Dinner Scene or the Boat House argument between Norton's character and his father). Many of the film's other over-discussed moments such as the clothing iron scene (involving an infant) are just plain exploitive and non-believable. Even if they do involve special effects and not actual bodies. Despite good qualities, the story is far from compelling and takes a back seat to the emotional showcase. Had the film makers opted to make the movie work both as a thriller and as a human drama, it might have been classic. Characters like the father played by Jon Voight borderline caricature. Perhaps I'm being too hard on this film. Then again maybe I'm not. In a way, movies like Pride and Glory hurt the most, since near-masterpieces are almost always more disappointing than simply bad films. Because we actually care for these people, to see them do things that seem a notch above or below reality; we often get the impulse to throw a soda can at the movie screen rather than to stand up and cheer. Mild to moderate recommendation.

The Best Cop Film I've Seen In Years.
Hands down, this was the best cop film I've seen in years. Although there is a great deal of craziness, going on in this film. The actors in this film seem to be sincere in playing their roles as written and are right on target with the script. This film tries to create a nuance of something, but it's really hard to nail down. I think the film was supposed to cause you to really think how important honesty and integrity are in life as seen through the eyes of Ed Norton's character. Colin Farrell, Edward Norton, Noah Emmerich, and Jon Voight all deliver great performances. There are many intense scenes throughout the movie, and Norton and Farrell match them with their own intensity. Voight is believable and realistic as the patriarch of the family of cops and the chief, ... Hands down, this was the best cop film I've seen in years. Everyone will see this film in a different light, but the irony of the film makes it more interesting since the characterizations are less predictable. Maybe that's why the director intentionally created the film this way; to show how chaotic and unpredictable a single second in a NYPD cop's life really is. 4/5 for action, suspense, mystery, intrigue, and story-line. Great Movie
Pride and Glory was your typical corrupt cop story. If you put no name actors in this movie it wouldnt be nearly as good. I believe the movie was made by Edward Norton he was absolutely amazing in this film. Just awesome! Corrupt cops, the mob, set ups, family drama, violence and a twist pretty much sums this movie up. Excellent Movie!
From the first time I seen this movie, I knew I wanted it on Blu-ray. Soneone once told me, "Once you go Blu-ray, you'll never go back", they were right. Their is nothing comparable to Blu-ray right now in audio or video. I love this movie as well as the capability to see it in 1080p format...
