This is probably the best method of single-handedly loading a heavy boat on to a high vehicle roof. Once fastened to the J-bars it is up on the roof in seconds. Also down again when you remember something left in one of the hatches. The benefits become really apparent in gusty conditions. What price your back...? It isn't cheap and can only be used with Thule Pro-bars. This can push the total cost to upwards of £600. It is also the most un-aerodynamic kayak carrier I have come across and cannot be quickly removed when not in use. It is necessary to adjust the width of the carrier for different width boats, by loosening a 4mm bolt. Smaller boats with rounded hulls, can cause it to bend, making it awkward to click in place on the roof. Overall, it performs as expected and I'm totally satisfied.Read full review

I’ve wanted one these assisted lift come carriers for a while but the Hullavator wasn’t available in the UK, or so I was told, until relatively recently. It does seem expensive but if you have to load and unload a sea kayak alone at any time you will reap the benefits, and so will you back and possibly your car! I’m certainly not disappointed with it. It’s early days but the quality of the parts seems good. The instructions provided are okay but there is a little of the “IKEA” look and feel about them. Initial set up involves a little bit of trial and error but I suspect that will vary from vehicle to vehicle. Mine is fitted to the latest model Kia Sportage and I think the curve of the roof is possibly the reason I had to experiment a little. Otherwise, so far, so good. If the cost doesn’t bother you then I recommend it.Read full review

Well made in typical Thule fashion, it’s quite expensive but well worth the money as it makes loading your kayak a one person job. Takes 18 kg of weight off the kayak making it an easy job to get the boat up onto the roof of the car. It comes with 2 straps and 2 tie down hooks to hold down the front and rear of the kayak.
