This lens is fairly light, easy to handle, and takes razor-sharp images. No need for a tripod even when the focal length is 300mm. Smooth zooming, with no discernible distortion. With the lens hood, there is no lens flare or ghosting. The VR function works very well. If there is a downside, the AF-S lenses use the Nikon Silent Wave Motor, which is a bit slower and noisier than the AF-P lenses that use a stepping motor to achieve focus. It is still quiet and smooth, but this might make a difference if you're videoing in quiet environments, and you don't want the sound of the focus mechanism to creep into the video sound, or if you're photographing high-speed sports. I don't plan to do either, so this lens is perfect. I'm really very pleased with this lens, and would highly recommend it to any photography enthusiast.Read full review

I already had the 55-200mm version of this lens and wanted something longer, where the design of the Nikon lens is not compatible with most teleconverters, so the longer factory lens seemed an ideal answer. The lens is a first class piece of kit, with amazing sharpness, helpes greatly by the VR function, which I think is invaluable in a lens of this length and weight. Weight is possibly the only drawback I would mention - there is no getting away from the fact that this is a chunky lens that has a lot of glass in it. Despite an apparently plastic or composite body, the glass elements do crank up the weight and make it appreciably heavier than the very svelte 55-200mm version. That aside, this is a very sophisticated optic with fantastic performance where it matters. At the price I paid it represents very good value - RRP is a slightly different story.Read full review
Having bought the Nikon D3200 complete with the 18mm - 55mm hit lens it seened good reason to 'extend the focal length' even more. i ordered it via a hong kong mailing address but the courier DHL provided excellent traking info (it arrived 7 days later) as to the quality of the lens i first used it at a wedding taking the most of the shots inside a church building and being restricted to the rear of the building found that i was using the full 300mm more than i expected, all the shots i took were hand held and the results were amazing thanks to the built in stability control, well done Nikon, continue making photography a joy for the user and dissapointment a thing of the past. Great price, quality glass, you can even use this lens for macro if you are prepared to move in & out and not leave all the work to the zoomRead full review
Got some lovely pictures with this lens . Brings subjects into sharp focus quickly and easily. Use as a 'general' lens to replace other lens is a bit difficult as the nearest the subject can be is a good way away (unless doing close ups of noses)

Light weight lens, comfortable enough to use without a tripod, which is a blessing when out in the field.. Auto focus bit slow for photographing wildlife but getting Pin sharp images when switching to the easy to use manual focusing . I'm very happy with the purchase, superb value and would recommend to any beginners.
