  • Herodotus

As a person who has the Penguin paperback version from the 1980s, I wanted to see what the how the new translation differed with the addition of new materail. I wasn't disappointed. This "Tome" is far superior to any previous version and should be added to your personal collection if you are an ancient history buff.

  • Charmingly unreliable Herodotus

Herodotus seems to be typically described as unreliable as a historian (as well as being called the father of history). Some of his tales are indeed rather absurd, but that turns out to be exactly the charm of it. A bit of history and a bit of mythology, and tall tales of intrigue. WIsh I could tell which was which, but it's quite entertaining. The Landmark version is quite readable, full of maps & helpful footnotes and appendices.
