I have a large collection of music on audio cassette tapes (as well as other media). For 25 years or so they were recorded and/or played back through a NAD Single Cassette Deck. When the door mechanism of that failed I sought a 'modern' replacement. The first, a new twin cassette deck, was supplied with both decks faulty. The second, a CD etc. Player/Recorder with Cassette Deck failed at 18 months and was deemed not repairable or replaceable. So three times within two years I was left without a cassette player/recorder and with that background I was doubtful that any other 'modern' replacement available now would be any better in construction, audio quality or working life. The RX-BX501 meets all my needs keeping alive this music archive dating back decades. It fits in perfectly with the rest of that hi fi system, the sound reproduction is first class and consistent with other sources such as vinyl and CD used through the same modern tuner amplifier and 'vintage' speakers. Naturally, I cannot as yet comment on its durability but it's construction, feel and appearance gives confidence for the future. Highly recommended. Read full review

At a time when its difficult to get a quality cassette player, this is a good buy. Display stock so a few scratches to the casing, offset by price reduction. Arrived well packed. After a couple of weeks its doing the job.

I bought my Technics RS-BX501 when I wanted a better cassette deck as back in the day the market place was "a wash" with HiFi systems. In no way am I denigrating these systems as now I buy and sell Technics systems, much as anything else as most of them never were used that much and a testament to Technics quality they all still work today. But to return to the Technics RS-BX501, I was going to buy the double cassette unit but I decided to buy the single one instead and it's been a really great buy, powered open and shut door, and very easy recording controls, play back is very good quality. I had a very large LP collection (wish I still had it) but back in the day vynal was going out of production and I decided to put all my record collection on cassettes, so I borrowed a very good record player and over the next week recorded most if not all of my LP collection on to the very best cassettes that I could afford and 23 years latter they still sound great playing them through this Technics SC-BX501, so if you are unable to buy one second hand then buy as new as you can, with the superb build quality of Technics, you really can't go wrong.Read full review

Does everything it is meant to. Has great sound even on a basic TDK D90 tape. In this day & age of digital music I was amazed at the sound. Nuff said.
