This was a childhood favorite of mine. Long before the X-games staarted, there was Thrashin' and Rad. One was skateboard and one was BMX. They both came out in 1986, and I believe they were the movies that opened the way for the X-games to exist. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes the X-games or Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk was in the pool competion in the movie. He wasn't a featured character in the movie, but he did some tricks in it. It has some minor violence compared to today's standards. Also, a lil '80's "sex" scene, but again is nothing comapred to todays movies. It is a great break from all the new movies that have far too much of that content. Swearing is also rather limited. I would recommend this to parents before many of today's movies. It's not quite Disney, but it isn't Mortal Combat either. Again, it is a great movie, I highly recommend it.Read full review
"What do you got?" This film is classic 80's. If you want to laugh at the way we were, check out some amazing 80's hairstyles and clothes, or just see Josh Brolin act as cocky as could be, I recommend you pick this baby up. Along the lines of another 80's classic, "RAD", Thrashin follows Corey Webster through the trials and tribulatons of a valley skater trying to make his way through the ranks of skating and through the aggresive punks that plague the streets: The Daggers. Featuring actual professional skaters in their acting debuts as well as "Max" from Weird Science (Robert Downey jr.'s jerk sidekick, Thrashin does a great job at mixing actors who can skate and skaters who can, well... skate, together. I had to rewind a few scenes of Brolin because I couldn't believe he was doing so many of his own skate stunts. You go Goonie. The director did a wonderful job of actually trying to find out about skateboarding by using actual skaters in their element as opposed to renting a squad of pros and slipping them in some other drama like say Gleaming the Cube. Sure some of their lines may be cheazy but hey, its the 80's. You gotta love it. Featuring 80's legends like Hosoi, Natas, McGill, Lance Mountain and too many others to list, there is actual skating going on through so much of this movie. Everyone's jumping of cars and walls the whole time. I kinda wish skating was like that now. Thrashin embraces the late high school/post high school (and probably no college) lifestyle. Party houses, the beach, punk rock, graffiti and the number one act of anti responsibilty: skateboarding. Hard to believe this gem has sat under the radar for so long. Buy it. Make your friends watch it. Have a laugh and maybe graffiti up your house. OK, now looking for this exact quote I found a lot of very hateful reviews of Thrashin. All from people complaining about the quality or script. You guys need to go review some oscar winners or something cause you just don't get it. I would glady challenge any of these fools to a classic ditch joust. Just like the Ramp locals versus Daggers. All the other reviews were 100% kudos. Yeah we know its cheazy but if you weren't cheazy in the 80's you were doin it wrong and its a lifestyle you'll never understand. Tell 'em Brolin: Corey: …Thrashin’. It’s just an agressive style of skating, I mean we…thrash. Chrissy: well… what do you thrash? Corey: …what do you got?Read full review
If you skated in the 80's, then this dvd is for you. If you haven't seen it, then you need to get it. And if you didn't skate in the 80's, you need to watch it and learn some history. The clothes, the styles, the neon-colored skateboards and who could forget, The Daggers! See all of your 80's pros who all still skate today, in their prime. All the stunts done were some of the same which were posted in early Bones Brigade videos. See a white guy actor get on a skateboard on a half-pipe and Steve Caballero as his skate double! All the cheesieness, is that a word?!? of the 80's like digital Casio drumbeat background music and a love scene which was half the movie. 'Thrashin' was about the 80's skate scene in Southern California. The good guys who wore brightly-colored T-shirts and Jamz shorts skating the neon-colored skateboard with neon copers, rails, tailbone, lapper and nosebone and the bad guys who were The Daggers skating dark skateboards while wearing black leather and jean jackets. It was about the struggle between these two types of skaters in this area. And about the downhill skateboard competition to win and get sponsored. Watch Hosoi skate downhill and ollie like ever 5 feet! See more skate legends like Tony Alva, Christian Hosoi, Steve Steadham, Eddie Reategui, Jesse Martinez, and many others. Watch the killer footage from the Del Mar Skate Ranch! This is a great movie! I couldn't wait to find it on DVD. And at this price, it's worth it. This movie was one of my favorite movies in the 80's! This was all the skaters had in the 80's. The outtakes are great too! If you love skateboarding, then you need this dvd!Read full review

"Thrashin'" is about as corny as "B" movies from the 1980's can get. Some of the skateboarding footage is good and this movie overall is good, except when the actors are speaking. The dialogue is strange; story improbable, characters are over the top, and the actors took their roles far too seriously. Much of the movie portrayed skaters as self destructive punk-kids that have nothing better to do than be creative through destroying personal and public property. It is the bonus footage/ interviews that make this DVD make worth purchasing. Included are interviews wth Jesse Parker and Brad Edwards of Gravity Skateboards and Steve Badillo of Alva Skates. The interview is interspersed with current skateboarding footage of these three great skaters. I rate this movie a 3 out of 5 because of the bonus footage. If this footage had not been included with the DVD, I would not have purchased this movie.Read full review
When thinking of your childhood there a few things that trigger happy memories for everyone. This movie is one of those triggers for me. I have many great memories spending late nights with my sisters laughing and goofing around watching this movie and other great 80's classics like "Rad" or "Goonies" etc...These are all movies that we all could watch over and over time and time again. These are movies that I hope that my futures kids would enjoy watching. This is very much a movie that I couldn't pass up the chance of buying.
This movie is one to own! Valley skater comes to L.A. for the summer and crosses paths with a rival skate gang called the Daggers. The daggers leader has a sister that is HOT and the valley skater and her fall in love, well the gang is not happy about this. Sweet pool skating and half-pipe Thrashin..80's skateboarding at it's best!!!! Thrashin and Gleaming the cube are the Time Machines for this 30 something fat board skater....
One of my all time favorite skateboarding movies can't beat it. I grew up in southern California going to pipeline in upland just brought back a lot of great memories

This movie has it all: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tony Alva, BAD ACTING, good vs evil, a hot 80's chick, skateboards, and most of all JOSH BROLIN (in a red Members Only jacket). Either way, you'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll laugh at why you are crying. This movie is full of memorable lines that you will be spewing all over the place while people look at you strangely like you are mental. GREAT AT ANY PRICE!
This is a great movie set in the 80'S! This movie is about skateboarding. It has Josh Brolin as the main character, you would know him from possibly the Goonies as a young boy and as a man: American Ganster, No Country for Old Men just to name a few. I recommend this movie to anyway to watch. Great movie, I really enjoyed it!!!!!!
