I got this model as a replacement for my DMR-EX75 which suddenly stopped working after a power cut. Most newer models didn't appear to have the ability to connect a Sky+ or TiVo box, although it's quite possible I've misunderstood the connectivity of newer devices, but this model is so similar to my previous one there is no learning curve. I have been a little surprised to discover some limitations in high speed copy, and don't seem to be able to do exactly what I did with the previous model. This one seems very particular in the type of recordable DVD's you choose, what aspect ratio is in play when a program is recorded (still trying to find out where those settings are) and what speed. All things considered, I'm happy with the purchase, I can connect, record and archive what I want to ... it does what it says on the tin!Read full review

This is an old piece of kit and anyone that buys one on EBay needs to understand that there are several areas where these fall apart. I was only buying this for spares for another unit so it was not necessary for it to work fully just that the DVD drive was okay. There are a number of failed capacitors both on the main board and the power supply. These are an easy swap but there was start up issues with the hard disc that because of its age really didn't matter that much. There are heat issues on the main board too which are to do with inadequate heat sinking from new but then given its age you wouldn't expect much else and to be honest I have seen far worse! I could have put it back together but there are so many of these currently on EBay that I had done what I needed for my customer and cannibalised the PSU and the disc drive and DVD interface. These were great devices when they were new but things move on and this is out dated but for many it is still a very useful unit.Read full review

I already have this exact model of dvd recorder so it was easy for me to set up and test. Everything fine, the usual excellent recording quality, DVD-RAM compatibility is a big plus on these machines. The presence of a SCART socket, which the latest dvd and blu ray recorders do not have, allow for connection to old VHS video recorders for ease of transfer of old tapes to DVD.

This pre-owned recorder replaces an identical machine which failed after many years' service. It has a Freeview tuner, records on to hard drive, and recordings can be copied from hard drive on to disc if so desired. This recorder is no longer made, and modern recorders do not appear to have disc facilities. Panasonic are very reliable in my experience.

See end of review for update. Well, to start with seller was brilliant to deal with, item in A1 condition. I had grown sick of the hitachi/sharp/grundig clones all breaking down, and need at least 2 PVR units due to shifts, so got a Humax 9200 cheap on ebay, then saw this just over £100. Would get full 5 stars if not for the fact you cant watch another channel while recording, like my previous PVR's, although you can still watch recorded stuff no problem. Not the end of the world, but have been used to be able to do that without going directly to TV to watch other channels. Probably the best quality pic ive had too, maybe down to the tuner, I dont know. Had heard the panasonic were hard to use menu wise, but no more than humax as far as I can tell so far. Copes well with series record better than most ive had, useful its got HDMI as it records in XP to make full use of it. Only other complaint(?) is that my bluray being panasonic too, means remote is same, so am selling that rather than this as it was getting on my nerves as all controls were the same for on/off/play etc. Maybe thats a good recommendation, if im prepared to put my new bluray up for sale to keep this pvr/dvd recorder. Haven't tried the record to DVD yet but am sure its as good as the rest of it! All in all, pretty much a belter if you can put up with the grumbles ive got, I know I will stick with it! UPDATE ater using a long time - PROS : still excellent picture and once used to panasonic menus, very straightforward and can easily set to record instantly unlike others which take valuable time CONS - remote slow to flick between menus, software probably, and worst of all, tried to play a DVD the other day and wouldnt recognise disc, same when tried to record onto one, wouldnt recognise there was one - THIS IS A COMMON FAULT according to the many forums with this model, so as a HDD, GOOD, as a recorder FORGET IT unless you are lucky and get a good one. Ive never used the drive until now, so presume its been like that since new. Can only speak as I find.Read full review
Well designed Panasonic recorder 'of its time'. Less noisy and much better built than later models. A little more complex and less easy to operate though, which is to be expected and is not important to me. Would have been five stars, but there is no 'open' tray button on the remote, so this has to be done manually.

As I say I feel that this unit is user friendly, it is very easy to use & everything is clear & simple, the picture is good as are the recordings. The remote works well, it's responsive & also easy to use, the only drawback these days is the small hard drive, it's a shame that it's not easy to install a larger one. But overall I like using this unit & am happy with its performance, it also has the added flexibility of having DVD & HDD, very useful! I would recommend this Panasonic with no problems, many thanks!!

We ordered this for my elderly parents to replace their old one. They didn’t want to learn how to use a new dvd so this was perfect. No damage to product or packaging. Many thanks

This was bought because whilst I can record hd on my satellite or terrestrial receiver (on a 60 gb usb drive or integral hard drive) I sometimes want extra capacity to record other programs and whilst this is not an hd recorder it does upscale quality and i'm very pleased with the up scaled quality it plays(recorded on both hard drive and ram discs) it also allows direct play from a high quality ram disc camcorder and to edit video directly onto the hard drive, all easy to do and control, a great product and addition to my system.
