  • Probably the best Nikon ever for the non-professsional photographer.

The nikon D5200 does everything miraculously well. It has a sophisticated autofocus system, an amazing sensor which delivers lots of detail - enabling you to enlarge quite small parts of the frame to the size of your computer screen while retaining decent sharpness and resolution - the ability to shoot at high ISO numbers ie shoot in low light with ease, and great portability, usability, learnability....Using the info screen to do the settings works well and just takes a little getting used to. For closeup shots, crowd shots, selfies etc the rotating and angled scree works a treat. Put a good macro lens on it eg the 40mm and the results are incredible; put a 55-300 on it and you have a sharp lens which is easy to use all on a budget. But if you put the more expensive lenses on it, they will work just fine. What won't it do? It won't weigh you down, look like a professional camera, confuse you with a thousand unnecessary settings, offer wifi without an adapter, or clean your socks. Everything else you might expect a camera to do it does brilliantly. Yes the viewfinder image is a tad small, but the alternative is to pay a small fortune for the D7200 which is a brick and doesn't really offer improved performance. I tried the D5300 and hated it, returned it and kept the D5200; it is for me the perfect camera.

  • A good small camera

Bought as a back-up body but lovely and light and pleasant to use producing decently exposed and detailed images with ease. My main criticism is that being an "entry-level" camera that many useful features and settings are buried in menus (time consuming) rather than accessed by buttons. There is also no top plate window that is so useful when working on a tripod and in manual mode. The handgrip is a bit shallow for my size of hands but on balance it is a very enjoyable camera to own and use.

  • Nikon's Oldie but Goody!

Easy to use in auto-everything mode or choose to set the things that you want. Long battery life, perhaps as I hardly use Live View. Been delighted with the photos produced, using a Nikon 18-200 mm zoom lens, and, with the USB lead, it's simple to transfer them to the Mac to enjoy on a big screen.

  • Great camera:)

Great camera. I have a d5300. When i saw this under £200, i had to buy it. The quality is same as my d5300. I use it for videos as this camera records full hd.
