About this product

Product Information

After the Second World War, cars in Britain were very hard to come by. Most new models had to go for export or were reserved for those drivers who needed them the most, such as doctors. Petrol was still rationed, roads inadequate and modern technology lacking. With the arrival of the 1950s, things slowly began to change: Morris, Austin and Ford put increasing numbers of British families on the road, new sports cars from MG, Jaguar, Triumph and Austin-Healey promised a thrilling drive, and innovative motors such as the Land Rover and the bubble car emerged. By 1958, new car buying was leading a consumer boom, and Britain's manufacturers still had the market to themselves. Giles Chapman investigates the fascinating motoring history of the 1950s. 200 colour illustrations

Item arrived on time and was packaged well. The item was exactly as advertised and was amazing value compared to other places. The seller was also incredibly speedy at replying to my enquiries. Although it was not the fault of the seller (the packaging used to send the item was more than sufficient), my figure did have a manufacturing defect (the left hand was broken off). Thankfully superglue put it back in place and no one can tell it was broken.

Item as described, well packaged, great price, unfortunately it took 9 days to arrive from stated dispatch date and seller didn’t respond to my request to investigate why tracking was still showing it as awaiting dispatch for a number of days.

Item came perfectly described with good packaging. Only issue is dispatch time and communication takes a while, thankfully came in time for what it was intended. Price is really good and super informative tutorials inside.

Cars we loved in the 1950s

This is an excellent book which has accurate information about all 1950s' British cars. It also starts with a few from the 1940s and ends with a few from the 1950s which is a perfect framework for the main subject. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in motor car history.

  • Memories

Great book. It rolled back the years to when I was a young boy. Tip to condition too. Thanks.

  • Those were the days

These were amongst the first cars I remember, and on the front are two that I actually owned. Took me right back to when I first ventured into learning to drive something with more than two wheels. Smashing pictures, enough text to give the flavour of the cars. I only put it down when I'd finished it. I've now bought the next in the series - 1960s here we come.
