If it helps anyone else I disconnected all hard drives, booted pc up with USB inserted then reconnected HDD`s after Windows update start appeared. Don`t forget to disconnect from internet.

Well pleased with this... Hopefully my HP 500 series will cope , I've reinstalled a "factory reset" to Windows 8.1, hopefully this'll save it being scrapped like Microsoft want, so maybe I can save the countryside being landfilled with older computers. Thank you guys. Stay safe

Wonderful customer service, and I would absolutely buy from this seller again. Side note: The laptop they gave is a Stone laptop, which i've never heard of before but seems to be a reputable company as described.
