  • Entertaining if you like thoughtful mysteries.

If you enjoy books like The Holy Blood etc (and perhaps also Dan Brown fiction) then hopefully you'll enjoy this. It's a sort of travelogue by Henry Lincoln, touring the area in his 4x4, showing the various sites in the Languedoc associated with the story of Berenger Sauniere, the humble priest who suddenly became wealthy after stumbling across "hidden treasure", though not necessarily gold or jewels... maybe just old documents. Who knows the nature of the "treasure"? Entertaining for a cold wet Sunday. Light the fire, pour a glass of something, and get comfortable. It's gentle-paced, not a block-buster, and my only criticism is that he spends a bit too long drawing connecting lines on maps, linking various hilltop forts and chapels. That drags a bit, but otherwise it's a good watch. ..
