    New Year's Evil (1980)

    Excellent release from Shout! Factory and at this moment in time seems to be the only officially released BD of the film. Nice transfer with fine image and sound and the extras are also very good (commentary, retrospective documentary, trailer). The film itself is one of those portraits of a killer films, like Maniac (1980) and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) only far less gruesome and transgressive. We see the killer very early on and the narrative follows them and their intended final victim through as a two hander till the end. Excellent performances, uneven script, self effacing direction. No classic, but a solid entertaining horror film.
