An excellent family film.
Based on a short story by Oscar Wilde, this is an enchanting film of an American family living in a haunted English castle. The ghost is ably portrayed by Patrick Stewart who does his best to scare the family into leaving but sadly these Americans are not running away. The Father absolutely refuses to believe in the fact that the place is haunted with hilarious results. There is also a love story between the daughter and a local Duke. It is about exactly what it says it is about: The Canterville Ghost
This has been one of my family's favourite movies for many years. It is great for all ages. It covers all emotions: happy, sad, funny, romantic. Very fulfilling. Of course the Dad is a jerk but then as a scientist one can imagine that he only sees what he can 'see' not what is really real. He learns which is very refreshing. Mum could be a bit more assertive in her understanding of her daughter, but she too, gets there in the end. The cast is superb.
