About this product

Product Information

DCI Hunt has left relative the comfort of the Greater Manchester Police to take on the 'southern nancys' of London, where he once again acquires a time-travelling sidekick, this time in the sexy and smart DI Alex Drake. Her psychology background and indepth knowledge of the Sam Tyler case lead her to dismiss her predicament as a vivid hallucination. Nevertheless, with crime rife on the streets of 1980's London, and a police team not very receptive to modern career women, Alex has a lot to prove before she can figure out how to get home.

Reviews
Radio Times - Great writing, fabulous music and lashings of humour[...]an utter treat, The Guardian - ASHES TO ASHES is better than LIFE ON MARS
Additional Information
ASHES TO ASHES follows on from the hugely successful BBC series LIFE ON MARS, and sees the return of the self styled 'Sheriff of Manchester' DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister). Whereas LIFE ON MARS was a throwback to the crime-fighting style of the 1970's with a style and wit reminiscent of THE SWEENEY and THE PROFESSIONALS, ASHES TO ASHES takes you back to 'the decade that taste forgot', the 1980's. The series revels in 80s nostalgia, providing plenty of sight jokes and of course, a brand new car for Hunt.<BR>DCI Hunt has left the relative comfort of the Greater Manchester Police to take on the 'southern nancys' of London, where he once again acquires a time-travelling sidekick, this time in the sexy and smart DI Alex Drake (Keeley Hawes). Alex's journey began back in 2008 when she was shot during a botched kidnapping of her daughter Molly. Her psychology background and indepth knowledge of the Sam Tyler case lead her to dismiss her predicament as a vivid hallucination. Nevertheless, with crime rife on the streets of 1980's London, and a police team that's not very receptive to modern career women, Alex has a lot to prove before she can figure out how to get home.

      Chauvin was a woman!

This is a clever sequel to Life on Mars, with a subtle twist, putting a female in a still fiercely male environment, despite the time factor. There are moments of 80s excess and a less football oriented plot line, set in dockland and London, in a Thatcher led nation.

    • Absolutely Briliant

When I saw this on EBay. I thought: "This looks good!" The follow-up to Life on Mars. The price was nothing to complain about either. I watched the first episode. Scenes of London flashed before my eyes. Fantastic! In 1981, I was a bike messenger and I remember the docklands before it was redeveloped. What a transformation! As for the content, I wholeheartedly agree with the Gurdian newspaper. They said it was better then Life on Mars. And they're right! Philip Glenister and Keeley Hawes are fabulous! I sense a lot of chemistry between the pair! Will they or won't they? You won't be disappointed. Keeley Hawes is brilliant! As are Gene, Sam and Chris. 10/10 For what it's worth; Why is series 3 so expensive? This is good stuff! Recommended 10/10

    • The 80s are back and they're 100% Hunt!

I loved 'Life on Mars' and so when I heard a sequel was in the works, I was a bit trepidacious but I needn't have worried. If 'LoM' was filmed in a gritty 1970s way, 'Ashes to Ashes' is all shoulder-pads, wine bars and Duran Duran. The cast are fantastic, and the plot (trendy police psychologist Alex Drake - Keele Hawes - is shot in the 2ist Century and ends up back in 1981 with Gene Hunt and his team) is as timey-wimey and twisty-turney as you might want as Alex tried to stop her beloved parents from being blown up with a car bomb. Highly recommended !

    • Wonderful follow up series to "Life On Mars"

Wonderful follow-up series to "Life on Mars". Philip Glenister was superb as Gene Hunt and Keeley Hawes was most believable in trying to get back to her daughter.
