    Great Machine.

The cordless plane is well balanced and easy to use. The motor is very good and whilst it's not as powerful as a mains unit it is more than adequate with a decent battery and sharp cutters. The only shame is that the collecting bag is deemed as an accessory which I find ridiculous.

  • Most critical review

    High quality tool

This is a powerful, well-built and well-balanced machine that is easy to use and adjust. It operates very smoothly and in use feels like a mains powered tool rather than battery all of what you would expect from Marita.

  • We use it for building canoes. Very pleased

Way better than anticipated! We run canoe building holidays, with lots of guests of all ages. Canoe building involves a lot of planing, and sometimes the hand-planes we use can be a bit demanding for some guests, so I thought I would try the Makita 18v planer. It works with assured power, and is a joy. Within minutes, our guest was successfully planing the sides of her canoe, and very much enjoying it. I might buy another one. Runs for a surprising amount of time on a battery. It is professional, well constructed and easy to learn to use, It throws the planings out at the side with significant force. The belt is visible through a window, and looks straightforward to change, It is 20 years since we used an electric planer here, and it does appear that they have become better built and ...

  • Makita 18 v cordless planer.

I am an experienced woodworker, and I have used hand planes for a long time and a brand corded electrical planer frequently during the last 25 years. The Makita cordless planer does a surprisingly good job, it is very powerfull for a cordless tool and can easily do what it promises. The planer arrived super sharp and produced a very nice surface that I have only seen in very fine hand planes. The design is fine and intuitive, and I could use it without having to learn how it Work. The only downside is that it uses batteries, quite quickly, and they warm up. It is going to be my favourite planer. I recommend it.

  • Awesome piece of kit.

I have been using a Bosch 240v planer for years now and decided that it was time to upgrade to a cordless model. Well I wish I'd bought this Makita years ago, I was amazed by how much timber that it was shaving off in a single pass on the oak door that I was working on. I should've bought this Makita years ago! My only criticism is the groove in the soleplate for shamfering - it is a little on the deep side. I set the depth to 0mm thinking that it would only take the burrs off the edge but it actually shamfered a good few millimeters. You can turn the depth dial down beyond zero (<0mm?) so I think I just need to practice more.
