“Room At The Top” made a profound impression on me when I saw it first run in 1959. Detailed information about this film is available at the Internet Movie Database: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053226/ Both Lawrence Harvey and Simone Signoret were nominated for an Oscar, and Signoret won. This powerful story about an angry young man, and the price he paid for his blind ambition, hit me right between the eyes at age 19. I have watched it many times. The love scenes between Harvey and Signoret are the most powerful that I have ever seen. Over the years, I have become a rabid Signoret fan. Here is a list of her films: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053226/ I have never seen any other actress who is so profoundly endowed with every desirable quality one might want in woman. She is physically beautiful, with a sensitive, expressive face. She is extremely intelligent. She is utterly honest. She is “all woman.” She is kind. She is vulnerable. She is modest. She is very well educated. She has traveled the world. I simply swoon whenever I get a chance to see her act, or be interviewed, on screen. When I try to imagine another human being that approaches her level, the one personality that comes to mind is Edward R. Murrow. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0615386/ The love scenes in “Room At The Top” cut so deep that they make me feel like a lovesick teen again, even though I am 66 years of age. Signoret was nominated again for an Oscar for her performance with Oskar Werner in “Ship Of Fools” (1965.) This performance was very similar to “Room At The Top” with its tragic setting. It also has the same heart touching romantic qualities. I rented “Room At The Top” (on DVD) several years ago from NETFLIX, and loved it yet again. A few weeks ago, I tried to rent it again, and was told that it was out of print and unavailable. It was like a slap in the face! I went into a panic and searched for a copy on the web. To my horror, I found that some copies were priced at as much as $175. Fortunately, I found a copy in brand new, flawless condition on eBay for $24.95. Now I will always be able to see this beautiful woman whenever I am in the mood. It is the best money I ever spent. The great and sensitive jazz singer and pianist Nina Simone (another artist with profound depth) stated that she took her stage name from Simone Signoret. I can see why as easily as I can see that 2 + 2 = 4. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0800510/bio Sadly, both beautiful ladies are no longer with us. Sometimes I get depressed and wish I could simply go to sleep and never wake up. At such times, I always feel better when I consider that perhaps there is a chance that I might someday wake up in heaven and be able to spend time in long conversations with both of these beautiful woman.Read full review
