I like this movie because it depicts an Afro-American leading man into the horror cult. Most of the horror craze bad guys like Jason, Michael and Freddy corner that market for a long time. Just to have a diverse serial killer to inspire young new actors: to take on the challenge of creating a whole new face to horror. For the most part, scary movies just had the traditional craze Caucasian man. But now there’s Candy Man who have join the ranks. And the story line was believable with a true fear plot behind it. Just not your average guts and blood type of movie, that seems to be all that’s out now. The only flaw in the series of sequels that came after, was the producers didn’t rise the bar afterwards.
I got this movie for my husband. He absolutely loves horror movies and we couldn't find Candyman in any of the stores. Thanks so much Ebay! I made it an awesome birthday for my husband thanks to me finding it on Ebay!! Absolutely love this movie!!

I do not hold very high hopes for horror movies anymore. I love the slasher movies from the 70's & 80's and it seems like the newer slasher/horror movies just want to shock - not scare you. While Candyman wants to capture the newer "shock me" generation it also has an undercurrent of good old fashioned creepy, scary horror that I LOVE. A student doing a thesis on urban legends decides to focus on the legend of The Candyman. Supposedly HE - I refuse to type his name again, I was that freaked out! - was a black man brutally tortured and murdered for falling in love with a white woman. Now he appears if you say his name 5 times in front of a mirror. He has a hook and is not afraid to use it. Superbly acted by Virginia Madsen and Tony Todd. Tony Todd is menacing but charming - when he says "Be my victim" you think "ok!", then you see his real face and you go "uh-oh". The special effect and make up are great. Gory without trying too hard - which usually makes things look like make-up - the creepiness and terror comes from the atmosphere. The stark lighting of Winter in Chicago, the dark caverns of abandoned rooms in the projects, the bright isolation of new construction apartments. Coupled with the music and the smart script make this movie one of the best horror movies I've ever seen - and I've seen a fair share of them! Super creepy and scary, highly recommended. I also highly recommend not watching this one alone - I did and that was a mistake, too good to turn it off but too scary to be comfortable in my own house!Read full review

You'd think the Candyman would at least bring some candy instead he brings death "How Disappointing"! Well not really as this movie delivers Tony Todd plays as the feared Candyman wreaking havoc on a disbelieving reporter that is played by Virginia Madsen. Needless to say she soon realizes that it's more than just an urban legend when everyone she knows begins dying unexplainably gruesome deaths. This edge of your seat thriller is definitely worth watching. I don't think you be disappointed in the least. Turn the lights off, get your own M&M's and enjoy this original bloodfest!
