The construction of the ignition switch is good, in that cables, connector and metal are good quality. However this is the 2nd ignition switch I have had to purchase in as many years, for my ride-on now. The others all failed due to moisture and water damage/ingress, just through the Great British weather and not always having stored my ride-on under a shelter (space is lacking sometimes). The positioning of the ignition switch on the ride on mower leaves more to be desired, as when it rains, water can quite easily get into the key slot where it just seems to sit and linger - after a while it starts corroding and the ignition sequence becomes troublesome - until finally you can't get it started anymore and the switch needs to be replaced. The design of my specific mower means that the switch faces upwards to the sky, not sidewards towards the seat... so every time it rains, you have water go in. This isn't really a design fault of the ignition switch itself I would say, more of where the designers have located it on the mower. As said, if they added a rain cap of sorts, or moved the location of the switch, it would solve the issue. Or of course I can park it in my garage, but that isn't always possible due to space limitations.

Ignition switch is an exact replacement.
This is an exact replacement for the original ignition switch fitted to the Mountfield. It is reasonably easy to fit, Mountfield have got the position of this switch wrong, this is the third time I have broken a key off by clipping branches whilst mowing. twice I managed to extract the broken key but this time I was not so lucky. Well recomended product and asupplier.

I can’t understand the previous review. This is exactly what we wanted for our ride on mower, our fault entirely the key was broken inside the ignition! Hit a branch which snapped it off. Thank you for keeping the spares!
