A scholarly biography of a fascinating man.

  • He'd Hate It

This is the definitive biography of Chatwin, writiten by a friend and someone that really knew him, as much as anyone could ever really know him. The man has long been a literary hero of mine. He was clearly an enigmatic and difficult individual inclined to genius. Not an easy mix of attributes in a person. The book is well balanced, the research thorough and the author manages to portray his subject as being brilliant and tragic as well as heroic and vulnerable. Chatwin laid bare, he'd have hated it. If you want to read about the man, buy this biography. If not, read almost anything Chatwin wrote. Travel writing at its absolute finest.
