Doesn't look much but my aloe is very happy

Directions on the back of the bag - followed those and potted a 20cm aloe vera which appears to be quite pleased with its new home (larger pot). 4L isn't a lot, my new pot is only 11x4x5in and I don't have enough left over to pot anything else, and it would be fair warning to say this doesn't look very much like other succulent mixes I've bought over the years - but again, my aloe isn't suffering any stress at all, clearly this was the right stuff to pot with. It drains very well so no soggy roots, and as I use the same brand succulent feed when I water, my results are consistently good. I will definitely be buying more - I have a pink Schlumbergera arriving in the next week or so and I want that plant to have as good a start as the aloe.

  • Most critical review

The compost is the worst I’ve ever bought :(

This soil is the worst I’ve ever bought. It doesn’t drain, water sits on the top and then the soil stays damp in the middle for over a month. I cannot understand why this soil is made for potting cactus and succulents? It is terrible. I’ve used compost from pound shops before and at least that didn’t kill off my cacti, succulents and aloe Vera plants like this did. I find it unbelievable that a compost soil can do so much damage. I’ve also had similar problems with other products from Westland. I will avoid that brand at all costs in future. I do not recommend this compost for “any” plants at all.

  • Over priced

I am/was in the process of using a large glass Carboy and turning into a terrarium using assorted succulents and cacti plants....I had been looking for suitable soil that could be used inside the vessel and found this product....The initial opinion was that this would be ideal and the amount 4 litres, would be ample...Sadly my calculations were way off course.....The paltry 4litres of the soil supplied is nowhere near the amount required. I will probably need at least a further 5 (maybe more) packets to have enough depth in the container. In my view I have paid well over the cost for this product, 20p of soil for a fiver,?? is not a good deal...Even if I was looking to potting those plants on the contents of the packet, would not go very far. I am sure the soil/mix is of good quality ...

  • Great compost

I use this potting compost for my succulents all the time. My plants seems to love it as they all look very healthy.
