Although the product description says it is 'clear', the liquid is brown rather than transparent, and stays on the surface as a brown colour. This was not a problem for me, as I was using it to 'seal' the wood stain from coming through for further coats of paint, and in fact it did this job perfectly, as none of the wood stain came through a further coat of paint (unlike the 2 coats used before applying the shellac)! This brown colour could be a problem for some people though.
