Synopsis
From housewife to humorist, the late-great Phyllis Diller has been making millions laugh for five decades with her groundbreaking comedy. Now the laughter continues with her uproarious autobiography. "Like a Lampshade in a Whorehouse" recounts how, against all odds, Phyllis Diller became Americas first successful and best-loved female stand-up comic. She began her professional career at age thirty-seven, in spite of the fact that she was a housewife and mother of five, and was working at a radio station because of her husbands chronic unemployment. Now, fifty years later, after two traumatic marriages, extensive cosmetic surgery, numerous film, television, and stage appearances, and separate careers as an artist and piano soloist with symphony orchestras, Phyllis Diller finally tells her story. With her trademark laugh, self-deprecating humor, and incredible wit, Phyllis Diller has etched her way into comedic history. And while her wild hair and outrageous clothes may make her look like a lampshade in a whorehouse, her strength, self-belief, perseverance, and raucous sense of humor make her truly unforgettable., From housewife to humorist, the late-great Phyllis Diller has been making millions laugh for five decades with her groundbreaking comedy. This seller is so good!! This was my second purchase (so far) and I am beyond satisfied. Both this and my previous purchase were priced incredibly fairly and arrived in better condition than listed/described. Wow!!! The order was packed safely and arrived about a week after placing it. You could not ask for more from a seller. Highest recommendation. Thank you.

Blazingly fast shipping!! I was very impressed with the accuracy of the description. What I visualized was exactly what I received. The "good" disc looks new IMHO and plays perfectly. Great price and even the sleeve was included. Packaging was very sturdy. Excellent service all around. What more can you ask for. Highly recommended seller!

  • Surprising life that lead to one of the first women comedy greats

I bought this book because I was curious about the life of Philis Diller. She was such a constant in TV and comedy my whole childhood and most of my adulthood. I difficult marriage became fodder for her comedy. She never let her family problems keep her from moving forward and striving for better.
