About this product

Product Information

Set in a fantastical empire resembling ancient China, THE STORY OF SAIUNKOKU revolves around a hard-working and ambitious Shurei Ko, a young girl descended from a noble family who dreams of passing the imperial examinations and taking a government post. Her various teaching jobs finally afford her the chance to become the emperor's consort and, if she's successful in helping him become a successful ruler, she is to be rewarded greatly. The bulk of this partly comedic, partly dramatic anime deals with Shurei's constantly developing relationship with the young emperor and the imperial staff. Volume one of this collection includes several episodes from the series' first season.

  • Amazing Series!

The anime is a very good adaptation from the manga, which I was read many times over. The characters are very interesting and their stories unique, while always finding a way to connect back to the viewers. The Art Box accompanying the DVD was a nice little gift, overall very happy with my purchase.
