In the tradition of BLADE RUNNER (also based on a Dick story), MINORITY REPORT is a dark, brooding vision of the future. Spielberg expertly mixes thrilling chase and suspense sequences (the best of which involves Anderton being pursued by eye-scanning mechanical spiders) and stunning special effects with a challenging look at society's willingness to sacrifice privacy and the notion of free will for convenience and security. It's not easy to accept the absurd world depicted in this long-winded sci-fi hokum, in which people are arrested and punished BEFORE committing a murder. But Tom Cruise gives one of his strongest performances as the boss of a "Pre-Crime" unit framed for murder by his own technology and director Steven Spielberg has a lot of fun with some astonishing special effects. Fans of Cruise and Spielberg will love it.It's not easy to accept the absurd world depicted in this long-winded sci-fi hokum, in which people are arrested and punished BEFORE committing a murder. But Tom Cruise gives one of his strongest performances as the boss of a "Pre-Crime" unit framed for murder by his own technology and director Steven Spielberg has a lot of fun with some astonishing special effects. Fans of Cruise and Spielberg will love it.
