After producing two successful movie-based games featuring the arachnologically augmented teen hero, the inventive Activision developer Treyarch spins a more comics-influenced yarn with Ultimate Spider-Man. While the 3D third-person action again takes place in large, freely roamed urban environments, as in Spider-Man 2, this game has players taking control of two Marvel super-beings -- Spidey himself, and his costume-cum-criminal rival, Venom.<br><br>As Spider-Man, players can patrol the rooftops of large Queens, NY, neighborhoods, using spider sense to find people in need and super agility to get to them in time. Is this the Ultimate Spiderman game ?
I thought the first two 3D Spiderman games were ok but needed some serious improvements. Although this latest version is not perfect I think they have gotten pretty close to making the Ultimate Spiderman Game. Graphics- 9/10 - The cell shaded look of the game is done well and gives ther feeling that you are playing inside of a comic book world. The framerate is smooth and the story cutscenes look great. I play this on my xbox 360 and have noticed a few glitches but they don't ruin the gameplay at all. This game almost looks as good as the animated series that was on MTV a few years ago. Overall i think the graphics in this game are done very well. Story- 8/10 - You play as both Spiderman and Venom and each has there own storyline in the game. My opinion my change after i finish the game but so far it's good. Gameplay- 8/10 - The webslinging, fighting and wallcrawling are all simple to do and make playing the game alot of fun. The game structure allows you to do what you like when you like. You can just swing around the city exploring and finding hidden items or helping the citizens. You can also do challenges like fighting a series of bad guys, racing through the city against The Human Torch or getting your best times reaching the big orbs scattered around the environment or you can continue the story mode. This is where the game kinda falls short, the racing and side missions are not that great compared to the action of the story mode but they do add to the game, they just need to be made a little more interesting. Basically the side missions are just put in there to extend the length of the game. Sound- 7/10 - The voice over is done well in the story mode and is where most of the sound work was used but the city itself seems a bit lifeless and could have been improved upon with more environmental sound effects. The sound in the game is OK but it could have been done better. Overall- 8/10 - So this may not be the Ultimate game ever made but I think this is still the best Spiderman game ever made and even though it could still be improved I have fun playing it and thats the most important thing. So if you ever wanted to experience what being spiderman is like this is the game i recommend.

I agree with some of the previous reviews, the game is too short. But as a bonus, there are countless side missions and things to find in this ENORMOUS enviornment. The game presents the big parts of New York City on a massive scale. And guess what? All of it is accessible. If I had to pick the most accessible game out right now this would be second ONLY to Godfather. Better than GTA and any other hero adventure game. The game does not fallow the storyline of the movies, but the events origionally written in the Comic Books. This introduces a new style of gameplay that can be considered more "cartoony", but infact, it makes the graphics look astonishing when you aren't rating them soley on their realism. The good: The gameplay was a lot of fun and still is, even after I beat the main story. The environment gives a lot of room to go exploring and finding all of the hidden tokens (there are a lot of them) is a fun diversion if/when you want to take a break from the storyline. I liked Spider-man's fighting style, and rewarding the player for evenly distributing the pain among a group of enemies introduced a bit of flair and strategy into the fights instead of simply trading punches. The bad: The storyline is short, and I spent a lot of time simply chasing after enemies during story missions. In these chase scenes, a single mistake can force you to repeat the entire mission, which is frustrating if you had made a lot of progress beforehand. Also, Venom can be hard to control and I found ... The good: The gameplay was a lot of fun and still is, even after I beat the main story. This game is one of the funnest i ever played. I like playing Venom the most cause you can chunk cars in mid air, kill people that are running away from you, being chased by the FBI with army helicopters and soldier with jet packs. Spiderman is also fun you can get his skinny venom suit which you see in the comic book and on the tv show. I never read the comic but i seen the show with venom along time ago. If your looking for a fun ,challaging, relaxing game this is the game for you. PS. I forgot to tell you about taken down gangs and taken down a gang war with spiderman you can also do races with johny flame the guy from Fantasic Four and races, Combat tours , Etc.This game is one of the funnest i ever played.
