I do a lot of work in London and have previously had concerns about how people were looking at me and the bag I was carrying, nothing of value in it and I would just hand it over but you never know how they are going to react when they figure out its worthless. There is always the risk of a random attack, the world is getting worse so makes sense to protect yourself, you can't fight back without getting arrested so may as well limit the damage being done to you.
