Additional Information
With ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez follows the further adventures of El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas), the guitar-and-gunslinging hero who has been leading a quiet life, but longs to get revenge for the murder of his love (Salma Hayek). When quirky CIA agent Sands (Johnny Depp) roots out El Mariachi for a special assignment, he comes out with all pistols blazing. Soon, a retired FBI agent (Ruben Blades), a drug kingpin (Willem Dafoe), a criminal on the run (Mickey Rourke), and a double-dealing fed (Eva Mendes) are all in on the action, which involves a plot to kill the Mexican president and shift the balance of power in Mexico.<BR>Handling the writing, direction, cinematography, and just about everything else, Rodriguez has crafted a tribute to the spaghetti Western films of Sergio Leone by placing his outlaw hero from DESPERADO and EL MARIACHI in an epic setting populated by numerous characters. Although it can be challenging to keep track of the unfolding subplots, the scenes involving Depp's badly dressed secret agent are the most intriguing and entertaining. Meanwhile Banderas eases back into the lead as the vengeful Mariachi, and Hayek and Blades make the most of their small but significant roles.

  • A Mexican Gunfight

In the arena there is bunch of fine actors playing the fools with their guns. The result is a cocktail of fine performances with cheap bloody wrangles - if good actors have ever been wasted, it’s here. Oh, but there is a scrip with an intricate plot, the FBI, CIA, a revolution, a rotten general and all that, but it’s all seen through the camera of Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids), so nothing is to be taken seriously, nothing at all - and say, even though a bit cheap, it’s funny enough. However, it’s gratuitously cruel and unnecessary bloody at time (probably Tarantino’s touch). So, pistoleros, tequila, and more dead than you can count. If you take it as a Mexican Carnival, you’ll enjoy it.

  • ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO

I bought this DVD on ebay for 99p!!! bargain. Bit of a 'mad' film, good guys verses bad guys (I think!) although is hard to tell who is who! Even the detective (Johnny Depp) gets his come-uppance! Alot of gun shooting and running around in this bizarre plot which does get alittle confusing. Great settings, costumes and sound track makes this unusual film one to watch.

  • Once Upon A Time In Mexico (DVD 2004)

The third film in the Mariachi trilogy manages the impossible and outdoes Desperado in the excessively silly stakes. This is a mess of a film; an entertaining one, but a mess all the same. If Desperado had absolutely no plot to speak of, this almost has too much, with characters and sub-plots thrown about, forgotten, then dragged up again out of the blue. I didn't really know what was going on from start to finish, except that characters wanted other characters dead. Cue an awful lot of action and gunplay, most of which is highly enjoyable. A gunfight that moves onto a motorbike chase around two-thirds in is superb, over the top and breathlessly staged.

  • Once Upon A Time In Mexico

This is the third "El Mariachi " movie and continues the story quite well. Although Banderas is the star , Johnny Depp as agent Sands steals the movie with a great comic touch in an essentially violent film. The plot is a little vague at times but seems to come together by the end of the movie. Selma Hyak is beautiful as ever and with a strong supporting cast I would recommend this movie. The DVD has a good selection of extras and is good value. I bought the disc as a present for my Johnny Depp mad daughter and think eBay was an excellent place to purchase it .
