Ratchet is the key
The ratchet function makes this product stand out as it is often the case that the first action does not fully cut a branch. It is important the shears don't open up again as the second action is then ineffectual. The ratchet keeps the jaws where they are. Good product though be careful I tore a pectoral muscle on a green branch 3cm thick 20 feet up a ladder on full extension. Tough product as this didn't break the tool just me. I'll be recovered in a few days just a bit sore. Only time will tell whether the quality lasts. With this type of abuse the linkages may loosen and then the product is useless.
