"As one of the few women to do this job, Addario has been able to convey to American readers the texture of life in places they might never otherwise see, entering secret women's schools in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan or taking a portrait of a Congolese woman heavily pregnant by her rapist. Many of the resulting photographs--here accompanied by essays from Addario and other journalists she's worked with--are distinguished by their combination of startling intimacy and narrative scope." -- Harper's "Striking." -- Mother Jones "Spectacular . . . a majestic collection that captures the drama of everyday existence in war zones around the world. With chapters chronicling Afghanistan under Taliban rule, the refugee crisis and women in the military, the volume is a testament to the endurance of humanity . . . There is no disputing the impact of this revelatory collection." -- BookPage "This astonishing selection of photos from photojournalist Addario strongly demonstrates her conviction that by risking her life to cover gross injustices she can create visual and visceral proof of human rights violations . . . Addario's photographs are stunning, and this book, which she dedicates to the 'brave and resilient' women and men she's documented, provides unique insight into the vital work of photojournalists." -- Publishers Weekly (starred review), "This astonishing selection of photos from photojournalist Addario strongly demonstrates her conviction that by risking her life to cover gross injustices she can create visual and visceral proof of human rights violations . . . Synopsis
"Spectacular . . . a majestic collection that captures the drama of everyday existence in war zones around the world. . . . There is no disputing the impact of this revelatory collection." -- BookPage From the Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist and New York Times bestselling author, a stunning and personally curated selection of her work across the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist and MacArthur Fellow Lynsey Addario has spent the last two decades bearing witness to the world's most urgent humanitarian and human rights crises. Traveling to the most dangerous and remote corners to document crucial moments such as Afghanistan under the Taliban immediately before and after the 9/11 attacks, Iraq following the US-led invasion and dismantlement of Saddam Hussein's government, and western Sudan in the aftermath of the genocide in Darfur, she has captured through her photographs visual testimony not only of war and injustice but also of humanity, dignity, and resilience. In this compelling collection of more than two hundred photographs, Addario's commitment to exposing the devastating consequences of human conflict is on full display. Her subjects include the lives of female members of the military, as well as the trauma and abuse inflicted on women in male-dominated societies; American soldiers rescuing comrades in the Korengal Valley of Afghanistan, and Libyan opposition troops trading fire in Benghazi. Interspersed between her commanding and arresting images are personal journal entries and letters, as well as revelatory essays from esteemed writers such as Dexter Filkins, Suzy Hansen, and Lydia Polgreen. A powerful and singular work from one of the most brilliant and influential photojournalists working today, Of Love & War is a breathtaking record of our complex world in all its inescapable chaos, conflict, and beauty., "Spectacular . . . a majestic collection that captures the drama of everyday existence in war zones around the world. . . . Good customer service with Half-Price books! The book was listed in "very good" condition which was not the case. It had writing on many pages, highlighting throughout, etc. which is not what "very good" is supposed to have. I contacted them and they immediately apologized and refunded my total purchase price including shipping. I gave 5-stars because of their wonderful customer service.

The SFBC The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide was as described as "Very Good", but appeared to be in "Good" condition. Received the book in a timely manner, only concern was the shipping package which was a thin poly envelope with zero protective cushioning. Two messages with seller regarding condition of the book since a stock picture was used, whether or not it was a "library" book and the shipping method used...took a few days to respond each time.
