About this product

Product Information

The first incarnations of Speedball came in the late 1980s with games playable on the home computer systems. The Bitmap Brothers' Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe was an early release for the Genesis and remains a cult classic today. Speedball 2100 brings the game ahead another decade or so in terms of graphics and sound, but the title remains true to the volatile, fast-paced action and simple control interface that have won the loyalty of many fans. Although Speedball 2100 adds some features over previous versions, it is primarily a port of Speedball 2.

Speedball has been described as a cross between handball, roller derby, and hockey (though it's quite a bit more violent than any of those sports -- all in good fun of course). Two teams of nine players each face off in a closed arena with high walls on all sides and a goal at either end. The object is simply to throw the ball through the opponent's goal to score as many points as possible. Points can be scored in other ways as well however, such as lighting all of the stars on a wall or by hitting Bounce Domes with the ball.

The game is constantly moving as the steel ball is passed back and forth or stolen with a heavy body-slam or a quick elbow to the teeth. Special power-ups can increase scoring possibilities or even temporarily disable opposing players. Several modes of play are available, from quick one-time grudge matches to season-long league play.

  • what could have been

great game, great concept, wish it would have caught on enough to get a ps2 or 3 remake. It just lacks the depth gamers like to see, with a bigger playing surface, a bigger league, and a much more in depth free agent market, could have been a franchise title. Maybe even could have had a franchise option with ticket sales and revenue earnings rather then getting coins from the court. The even could have combined a recruiting system with the free agent market, like a combo of madden and ncaa. i mean come on, its an imaginary sport- you could do whatever you want with it. Its a shame.

  • Favorite as a Kid

This was the first game. It is a mix between hockey and soccer but you use your hands to carry the ball. You score points from goals, bumpers like pinball, hitting certain items with the ball or my favorite, taking out the other players. With each with you get points to buy items to create better players so you get to manage your team as well.

  • Great Game

I love this game. I'm not sure what it is about it... I can tell you this, I have a backup copy so that if I play mine so much it wears out on me I've still got another!!
