About this product

Product Information

In 1951, eighteen-year-old Lee Bouvier and her twenty-two-year-old sister Jacqueline took their first trip to Europe together. Jackie had already spent a year in France living with a French family and attending the Sorbonne. Her many cards and letters had made her sister Lee want nothing more than to see Europe with Jackie.   Having convinced their parents, the two young ladies set off to see the continent. As they traveled, they sketched and kept notes, creating an illustrated journal of their time abroad, which they presented to their parents as a thank you upon their return; that delightful chronicle is ONE SPECIAL SUMMER .    Join Jackie and Lee for a tantalizing glimpse of a lost world: crossing the Atlantic by ocean liner, visits with counts and ambassadors in Paris, art lessons in Venice, and white gloves in the afternoon. Smile at the social agonies all young women suffer in common--how to politely consume an oversized hors d'oeuvre, the horror of slipping undergarments, and the art of fending off unwanted romantic advances.

  • The MOST CHARMING BOOK I have ever read and owned! LOVE IT!

My husband knows I love all things Jacqueline Kennedy and found this absolutely charming book as a gift, certainly one of the best I have received from him! It's the story written by the two Bouvier young women, Jacqueline, age 22 and Lee, age 18. Jacqueline had been studying at the Sorbonne and living with a French family for two years, writing her sister often about all her escapades and the joys of life abroad. Lee wanted nothing more than to go to Europe with Jacqueline and after begging her parents, they made arrangements to see the girls off on the QE2 to Europe. The girls wanted to put this book together as a thank you to their parents for their summer abroad. Jacqueline did the drawings and wrote the prose. Lee wrote the part about High Tea with the Queen and their travels to and ...

  • Bouvier sisters trip to Europe.

Enjoyed this book with details and drawings of a trip to Europe taken many years ago by the young Bouvier sisters. If you are a fan of history of Kennedy, Bouvier families I think you will enjoy!

  • CHARM AND HUMOR

I have always admired and respected Mrs Kennedy and bought this book on a lark...I find I also like her sister and wish I could have been with them on their european sojourn... This is a book that displays the talent and humor of two young women and just another piece of the Camelot puzzle....opening the chink so one can see they were just enjoying each other's company and the moment...
