This is one adventure in the life of Gus the Ghost. I bought it because we have another Gus the Ghost book and my daughter loves it. The illustrations are black and white. I was surprised but then realized this was to emphasize the book's theme; Gus is tired of wearing only white sheets and wants to wear colorful drip-dry sheets instead. Having mostly black and white illustrations was not as fun to read as a book with colorful illustrations. Another bad point is when Gus becomes extremely disappointed and reacts with anger toward his friends. I do not like this model for my 4 year old and do not like some of the words Gus uses. For example, he calls his cat stupid. But, I simply edit these parts as I read and will continue to read this book to my daughter. I like how creative Gus becomes to try to raise money to buy colorful sheets. I also like that Gus does not give up in his quest to fulfill his dream of wearing colorful sheets. Gus reads the Ghostly By-Laws and discovers everyone's interpretation is not correct. Gus also shares with all the other ghosts what he knows about the by-laws and even offers to teach them how to paint their own colorful sheets. I like these role models for my daughter. I also appreciate Gus using deductive reasoning to realize the by-laws were written at a time when there were only white sheets available.Read full review
