Is lolita kubricks greatest film. Maybee not. but its not bad. I gave it a 4 out of five. But lets see how many of his 12 films get five stars. Full metal jacket, theres one. 2001: A space oddesy, two. A clockwork orange, three. Barry Lyndon, yes Barry Lyndon is well deserving of an "excellent" rating, four. Not to mention The Shinning, Dr. Strangelove, Sparticus, and Eyes Wide Shut are all easely four stars. Stanley Kubrick is one of Hollywoods most unappreciated directors. Because he did'nt appreciate Hollywood. He continually went against the grain, and as a result created masterpiece after masterpiece. In my view the most important and influential directer of all time. That is why I had to see Lolita. And I was'nt dissapointed. Poinent and emotional, Lolita tackles the taboo subject of an adult male enfatuated with a teenaged girl. After the relationship becomes sexual. The adult male Humbert becomes even more obsesive and controlling over Lolita. And the movie dose well to create that emotion and frustration. Other than Arthur Clarke with 2001, I don't believe there has been an author who liked or agreed with how Stanley Kubrick adapted there novels into screenplay. But at the same time most of Kubrick's films have been hailed as cinimatic greatness. Hollywood was ruined by the Hollywood Actor. And now the authors. Shamefull. Stanley Kubrick was an artist and film was his canvas. Actors where his colors. I hope you have a chance to see Lolita and everything else that was made by the Master the late great Stanley Kubrick.Read full review
I saw this movie years ago when I was a teen, didn't understand, then about a year ago I watched this movie on TCM, I had to have this movie for my collection of classic movies.... James Mason was so convincing as the love struck step-father, Sue Lyon nailed her part as the Seductress daughter of Shelly Winters...And Peter Sellers is memorable with his disguises as he plays mind games with James Mason that leads to his fatal shooting.... This is a great B/W movie from the 60's movie lovers should see.
Lolita.. a Black and white movie with many missing blanks in it It was a pretty forward movie during the 1960's. I believe it is based on a true story. It opens your mind evils of human life, and if you let your mind wonder Good acting. Sue Lyon as Lolita was 16 at time of filming. There had 5 marriages, and stilling living at present. (2012) She had many short films, but never was the main Star again. For sure it is not for Children. The movie kept going from the past to the present, and it lost me at times. It is a long movie. This type of movie is not for me.
THIS FILM IS GREAT WELL ACTED THE SUBJECT MATTER IS A LITTLE HARD TO TAKE DOWN HOWEVER J IRONS, AN THE YOUNG LADY DO A SUPER ACTING JOB AN THE STORY LINE IT WONDERFUL BUT A LITTLE HARD TO TAKE AT TIME. T.REED
