This movie has one joke - is the title character, Pat (played by SNL's Julia Sweeney) a man, a woman, or something else? Based on the seemingly neutral gender Pat character of Saturday Night Live, this movie takes the viewer on a maddening game of visual "keep away." Just when you think you will find out if Pat is a man or a woman, somethng happens that keeps you guessing, and when he/she meets an equally gender-indiscernible partner, it's the same joke squared. I enjoyed the movie when I saw it in theaters in '95, and my teen son thought it was hilarious when I shared it with him in 2006. It is a frivolous romp, SNL style, no deep thinking required. If you are willing to ride the single-joke theme to it's end, then I would definitely recommend it. Will you ever finally learn the true gender of the socially inept yet likeable Pat? I'll never tell. Get the movie and find out.Read full review
If you have ever watched Saturday Night Live, you may remember the androgynous "Pat". This undeterminable sex busy body stars in this movie where Pat meets and falls in love with Chris who is also an undeterminable sex person but is much more sensitive. It is funny but obnoxious with Pat's voice.
