First of all, this thing is BIG. A women's size small backpack would be hard pressed to accommodate it--which, of course, means that a larger person with a larger pack would have to carry it. Thus, my 60 liter pack, and not my wife's 40 liter pack is used. The 2.1# weight is only a problem if you're obsessed with ultralight everything. We have no problem packing it with two nights and three days worth of dehydrated food. We carried our granola bars, etc., to eat while we walk.. If you're in an area where bears are a problem, or where the forest service mandates food canisters, then the BV450 is a good choice.
