    Brilliant entertainmant

    This is a brilliant crime fighting story. Its gripping and very true life with super characters. My only hitch is that a small scratch on one of the discs causes a blip and I missed about 30 seconds of one episode but hey ho.

    Landmark cops and robbers series where there are goodies and baddies on both sides - and much humour.

    There is little I can say that has not been said before about The Wire. It is a gritty look at drug-related and other crime in Boston from the point of view of the Police who have to deal with it, who do not always behave as well as they should, and the perpetrators, who are not always willing perpetrators. These grey areas leave you wondering who are the real criminals - at the same time, there is a great deal of lovely humour - some of it dark, some of it just funny.

    Why the Wire? Read on...

    This series fully deserves the hype it has generated. The action is pacey and humourously insightful. I particularly appreciated the wisdom of reflecting street life in such a way that characters on both sides of the tracks are products of their environment and life chances rather than good guys and bad guys. The depth of characterisation draws the viewer into a relationship with the dealer, the cop, the corner boys in a way that holds and demands your full attention and makes a nonesense out of standard stereotypes. This is seriously good drama. It will challenge and enthral, shock and surprise. I fully recommend it.
